Assignment for May 1, 2008 - Final Questions

Based on what you learned in class and what you researched throughout this webquest, what purpose have games of chance and gambling served in various cultures, and what are the most interesting things you have learned about them throughout the unit or webquest?

Based on what I learned in class and what I researched throughout this webquest is that the purpose games of chance and gambling served in various cultures, in my opinion, is to give different varities and types of gambling and games of chance to the people. All people should want to try new things and a good way to do so is to try different types of gambling and games of chance all over the world. That is of course if you like to do these things then that would be a great way to do it. There are many interesting things I have learned about them throughout the unit/webquest. One of them being how you can you use a lot of things as a game piece for a game of probability. I liked seeing how gambling and these games of chance originated because they showed me things about them that I never knew and I really enjoyed that.

Based on what I learned in class and what I researched throughout this web quest, I’ve learned that the purpose of games of chance and gambling serve in various cultures. Like how different cultures would use dice to determine different things. For example in certain German tribes people that ran out of money would offer their freedom. Well I guess the most interesting thing that I learned was that in the game of marbles, marbles represented power. Something else I found interesting was that playing cards originated in China but the Germans were the first to start mass producing them.

In the following sentences I will be telling you what the purpose of gambling has meant to different cultures and what I thought was the most interesting thing out of all of it. One purpose that gambling has served as is determining weather or not you become enslaved or if you keep your freedom. I personally thought that out of the readings and discussion's that we have had in class that the article about our founding fathers playing the lottery to determine our fate was one of the most interesting things I have ever learned. And that is what I thought was the main purpose of gambling for some cultures and what the most interesting fact was to me was.

I think what is very interesting from what we learned in class is the way they all played the games. From culture to culture they have all been different. I thought it was very interesting seeing all varieties of games. The most interesting thing i have learned about in them is the way they are played. In every culture they are played different, In each game of chance it was different from games to games. I really liked how not similar the German Casino's were from our Casinos. It was cool learning about some of there differences and some similarities the two had.

Gambling has contributed to many different countries. It has helped people unite to play a game together. It has been banned in certain areas but has come back. Gambling has made a great impact on the American way of life.

Gambling has been in all parts of the world like China and Germany. Most gambling has helped the country's economy. I think one interesting fact is that card games began in China.I thought it would have stated in England because of the cards name. One other fact that is interesting is that card games were in many places of the world and the also had different meanings too.

During the research throughout the webquest on games of chance and gambling served in various cultures, i have learned that the games took a very good role in each cultures. A lot had to do with competion and slavery. It was also interesting that the games of chance and gambling went back a long way into time and we still play them today. That is what the purpose of games of chance and gambling have served in various cultures, and the most interesting things i have learned about them throughout the unit or webquest.
