Assignment for May 1, 2008 - Final Questions

Based on what you learned in class and what you researched throughout this webquest, what purpose have games of chance and gambling served in various cultures, and what are the most interesting things you have learned about them throughout the unit or webquest?

The game marbles is a huge game of chance. Marbles can be a very challenging game. You have to hit the marble at the right spot to try to get the other players marble out. People play all these games for fun but sometimes they compete. I think it is very interesting how all of the cultures have their own way of playing these games.

Marbles can be hard to play, but it is really fun once you get the hang of it. You draw a triangle andpull a marble out. You then roll your marble to try to hit the other player's marbles out. People all over the world play marbles to have fun and to challege themselves. I think it's cool that all cultures have unique ruls to go by when playing.

Games have played a major role in ancient times and modern times. Many have served for deciding who gets what or what you win. In modern times we use gambling to earn money and other various prizes. I learned from the web quest that Casinos aren't something that was just invented a few years ago, but hundreds of years. One of those Casinos is Casino Baden-Baden in Germany.

Games of chance have served many purposes for a lot of cultures in the world. The games of chance played in the ancient times were played just to determine who gets something, or to win money (sometimes when a player runs out of money they sacrifice there life in the game just to play). The games of chance played in the modern times were played to earn money or just to play for fun. An interesting fact I learned throughout the unit was that playing card were invented in China.

Based on what you learned in class and what you researched throughout this webquest, what purpose have games of chance and gambling served in various cultures, and what are the most interesting things you have learned about them throughout the unit or webquest?

I think gambling has played so many roles in every culture that is it hard to keep track of! In Macau it is mainly a leisure activity where as in other cultures it determined whether or not we went to war! The most interesting things that i have learned are that in Yemeni boys and girl;s are not allowed to play together. In Macua, gsmbling was legalized in 1847!! That is a long long time ago! I guess I never realized that it had been around for so long. Over all, i really enjoyed the articles.

Well, I have learned alot from reading all of the websites online. One of the things I have learned is that gambeling has even helped some cultures economy. And in Germany case it has played a big part in their culture.

The most interesting thing that I have learned is... well... just the fact that gambeling is such abig thing. I always pictured it just as a LasVagas thing, but it is world wide.

Gambeling is a big part of the human ways and it probably always will be.

I have learned so much from these things. Like that games of chance really haven't changed throughout the years. Although, we have done away with using dice to see who gets land, thank goodness. But they are the same as to say that in games of chance you win, or you lose, I personaly think that will never change. So yes, I could say that I really have learned something with these.\
